Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra 2025: Seamless devotion backed by unprecedented safety, sanitation and crowd management

The Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra 2025 is witnessing not just spiritual fervour and record-breaking footfalls, but also unparalleled security, crowd control, and sanitation preparedness that is setting a new benchmark for large-scale religious gatherings in India.

Security arrangements: Multi-layered and tech-enabled
To ensure the safety of over 12 lakh devotees, the Odisha Police, in coordination with central agencies, have deployed over 180 platoons of police personnel including National Security Guard (NSG)-trained anti-terror squads, bomb disposal units, marine police, and traffic battalions.

Key security features include:
• 1,000+ high-resolution CCTV cameras with facial recognition, monitor centrally in a state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre.
• AI-powered drones provide real-time aerial surveillance, especially during peak hours of the chariot procession.
• Sniffer dogs, anti-sabotage teams, and metal detectors are deployed across entry points.
• Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and ambulance-on-wheels are stationed every 300 metres for immediate deployment.
• GPS tracking of all emergency and patrolling vehicles ensured tight coordination.

Hi-tech solutions
Handling lakhs of devotees in a limited stretch of road requires surgical precision. This year, authorities introduced:
• Digital wristbands and QR-coded passes for registered pilgrims and volunteers to manage crowd flow and identify priority needs.
• Heat-mapping technologies track congregation density to prevent bottlenecks. • Over 1,000 trained volunteers and mobile info kiosks guide pilgrims, especially the elderly and differently-abled.
• Demarcated movement corridors for VIPs, chariot pullers, and medical emergency teams ensure unbroken logistics even during the most crowded hours.

Sanitation & hygiene: A clean pilgrimage experience
With lakhs converging in Puri, sanitation is a top priority:
• More than 10,000 sanitation workers have been deployed in three shifts over seven days, backed by mechanised sweepers and vacuum vehicles.
• Over 5,000 bio-toilets and 200 mobile toilet vans are installed across strategic points.
• IoT-enabled smart bins monitor waste levels and alert control rooms for timely clearing.
• Regular spraying of disinfectants, fogging, and public hand-sanitising units ensure hygiene across the town.
• A dedicated solid waste management centre processes nearly 300 metric tonnes of waste daily during peak days.
A devotional triumph, logistically unmatched
Lord Jagannath’s Puri Rath Yatra 2025 is a blend of spiritual heritage and modern governance. From smart surveillance to robotic waste collection and digitally connected volunteers, every aspect is orchestrated to give devotees a safe, serene, and seamless darshan experience.

This year's Rath Yatra isn’t just about pulling the chariots—it is about pulling together a nation’s collective will to celebrate faith with dignity, discipline, and devotion.
